OK I got it to work, thanks very much :)...but I can't seem to get the memory card on the emulator to work, in the game when I save it tells me "Failed to save data". I try deleting the memory cards I made and make new ones with "epsxecutor", formatted them then put them into the designated slots, 1 for the first and 2 for the second, but I still get the error :S...Iono what to do...:(

Alright. GG your guide is a major help. But I just have one problem
When I get to step 7, I do double click the "ePSXe.exe" file. And the following comes up: "This application has failed to start because burutter.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem" when I check it in WinZip, though, I can SEE the burutter.dll file. about 2 spaces up from the ePSXe.exe file. so what's the deal?
I have Re-installed it. I delete everything I downloaded from this guide off my computer completely, did the guide all over again, and still got only to step 7.
help would be appriciated =]

Hey guys!
Great thread but the problem i'm having is that when I try and run an iso it says that there is 'no WGL extention' and it closes down?? I think i've done everything correctly.
Thanks

You don't have a better graphic card that support T'n'L. Please try other plugins like P.E.Op.S plugin for GPU. :)

Yeah, I've tried everything, tutorial videos, all the plugins mentioned, I configured it properly, and all I get when I load an iso is:
*error loading [plugins\T3KOcpka.dll]
I have never seen that file, ever. Here is a screenshot:
http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff276/SuperShadowRyan/HELPPSXE.png
Grr... I partially think it's because I run Windows Vista... But I don't know for sure... worked on my other computer... WhyTF does this always happen to me with emulators for fifth generation consoles?!?
EDIT: well, apperantly, I had to go and select Disabled Netplay for my netplay plugin since it was blank. Never mind.

use the google and search for TK30cpka.dll and put it into the plugin and try again.

----------------------------------------------
General Epsxe Setup and Configuration:
----------------------------------------------
1) First you will need to make sure you have the latest copy of epsxe. As of today - August 1, 2004 - the most recent version is 1.6.0. If you do not have this release you can download it here...
ePSXe (http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/psx/epsxe.html)
2) Once the file is finished downloading double-click it's icon. The file should automatically open in an archiving program such as Winzip or WinRAR. If you don't have such a program you can download one from either of these locations...
Winzip (http://www.winzip.com/downwz.htm)
WinRAR (http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm)
Keep in mind both of the previous downloads are evaluation copies or "trial versions"
Once you open the epsxe zip file choose to extract all of it's contents to the following path (this can be done by manual navigation to that location or by typing out the path name):
DRIVE:/Program Files/epsxe (Replacing "DRIVE" with your hard drive's letter)
3) Retrieve a Playstation BIOS file from elsewhere on the internet. It is considered in most countries to be illegal to be in possession of such a file so we cannot post links to it here. The file you will need can have two names --- one for NTSC (North American) games and one for PAL (European) games. Most likely - you will need the NTSC file. They are titled as follows:
- NTSC - SCPH1001.BIN
- PAL - SCPH7502.BIN
4) Once you have successfully download the correct BIOS for your region, extract it or place it in the following folder (assuming you used the suggested installation directory for epsxe as stated above)
DRIVE:/Program Files/epsxe/bios ("DRIVE" being you hard drive letter)
5) Next you will need to download some plugins for epsxe. Mainly you will need GPU (graphics proccessing unit) and SPU (sound proccessing unit) plugins. These are simply recommendations based on which plugins "normally" achieve optimum performance in most PCs. Download the following files.
GPU Plugins:
Pete's OpenGL GPU (http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/psx/psxplugins-tools.html)
Pete's OpenGL2 PSX GPU (http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/psx/psxplugins-tools.html)
SPU Plugins:
Eternal SPU 1.41 (http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/psx/psxplugins-tools.html)
6) Once you have download all of the previous files (which will open in Winzip or WinRAR) extract all of their contents to the following directory:
DRIVE:/Program Files/epsxe/plugins (Provided you used the suggested path)
7) Once you have done all of this it's time to start epsxe for the first time. Go to the directory you installed epsxe too and double click the icon titled 'ePSXe.exe'. The program should start shortly.
8) You should be greeted with a popup box titled 'Welcome to the ePSXe config setup'. This is a "wizard" to get you started. If you've already run epsxe for the first time and want to access the wizard again click 'CONFIG > WIZARD GUIDE'. If you feel like reading then read what it says - otherwise click "CONIFG >>>" on the bottom right hand corner.
You will first be prompted for the BIOS configuration. Provided you have downloaded the correct BIOS and placed it in the proper folder you should see it listed in the white box. Make sure it is highlighted/selected and click "NEXT >>>"
Next comes the GPU configuration. In the white box will be a list of all the plugins you have for graphics. I suggest using Pete's OpenGL driver but depending on your PC specs - it may be trial and error until you find a plugin which produces desirable results. Once you have selected one click "NEXT >>>"
Here you will need to select the 'Eternal SPU Plugin 1.41' from the white box. This plugin should be the best all round for nearly any system. Click "NEXT >>>"
Now you will need to select a CD-ROM plugin. I recommend that if you are going to be playing from actual CDs to simply select 'epsxe CDR ASPI core 1.5.2' and click 'Configure' right under the white list box. In the popup which appears it will say "Select CD-ROM" and have a drop down list below it. Drop down the list and pick whichever of your drives you would like to use for reading the discs. Click "OK". If you plan on playing from image files or ISOs then you can ignore what I just said. Click "NEXT >>>"
Next comes configuring the gamepads. This should be pretty self explanitory. Click on which Pad to configure and change buttons to your preference. Click "NEXT >>>" when you are done. Click "DONE"
9) Ok. Now if all is well you can attempt to play a game. For users who wish to play from an actual PSX disc you can put it in the cd/dvd drive you selected earlier now. When ready Click "File > Run CDROM". Be patient and hope for the best.
Users who wish to play ISOs can mount the image directly in epsxe by clicking "File > Run ISO" and selecting your image in the popup window which shortly proceeds.
10) Congratualtions! Hopefully your playing a game right now and enjoying it.
----------------------------------------------
If anyone has anything else useful to add for a beginner - knock yourself out. :)
I was downloading Civilization 2 for the ePSXe. there were like 8 different files. the files are RAR. PART. Do i have to get all them??
Also I just tried copying to hard drive from my cd. It stopped saying files couldn't copy, so i tried to skip them because they didn't seem needed. Ex. Wounder00.STR
Wasn't there a program that would let me Rip and Copy??

Try to set as 'Fast' setting on any Pete's GPU plugins' configuration (remember to limit the FPS to 60). This may do a lot on "try and error" until it meets to your expectations.
Good luck.

you're missing ASPI layer, give a try to forceASPI (http://force_aspi_18.w.interia.pl/). If you're using win 2k/Xp you can switch to SPTI (IOCTL).
Anyway, to use an *original* FF9 PAL CD on ePSXe, you'll need the specific patches (http://www.ngemu.com/misc.php?action=ppf). Get only the files for your region (PAL UK). Then unzip the patches (.ppf) to ePSXe "patches" folder, then rename each one acording its respective CDs: In FF9 CD number 1 main folder there is a file named "SLES_029.69". Rename the .pff exactlly as that file, the same for the other CDs, but note the SLES_#.29.69 will have "1", "2", and "3" instead "#".
Don't forget to and leave them on the "patches" folder. Should load OK then ;)
Nvm this post, I downloaded PSXfin and it worked flawlessly right off the bat, none of this extra stuff missing

Try P.E.Op.S soft GPU plugin. If you're using save states then start a game from the beginning using the mentioned plugin.

Hello people! Cool to be here. Lotsa nice info.
Anyway, I'm quite hesitant to start a thread for just one question. So here goes.
I am currently playing Breath of Fire 3, and I am experiencing lagging problems. The game slows down in random parts of the game - both video and audio. I've read somewhere here that in cases wherein the game is going too fast, the video config should be tweaked. Does it follow that I should I also do the same solution? Also, I'm not quite sure how to tweak these settings. It would really help if any of you would suggest ideal settings for my problem.
Thanks in advance. Really appreciate this. :D

Hi Mystic. Thanks. Actually just a few minutes since I posted that query, I instantly fixed it on my own! Haha. Stupid me. I only had to try an another graphics plug-in. All's well... UNTIL I reached a certain point in the game.
There's a part in the game wherein Ryu (the game's protagonist) is asked to chop wood. And I, as the player, am required to use the Triangle button for Ryu to hack the wood. Btw, I assigned the Triangle button to letter W in the keyboard. There's a time limit for the challenge so I really have to hack as many wood as I can. And so the timer starts and I noticed, THE TRIANGLE BUTTON (W) DOESN'T WORK! I tried other buttons but to no avail. Until the game hangs up, and I am forced to quit the emulator. Right now, I'm starting to hunt for solutions but no luck yet.
So there. So much for the instant solution. Might as well try Vagrant Story while figuring out what to do.
Thanks thank thanks!
EDIT: I fixed it again. Sheesh. Really stupid me. Is there such a thing as an ULTIMATE plug-in? I'd really love to have that. LOL

Before you load a game open Config from the toolbar, select Gamepad and then port 1. You can define your controls in there.

Does the pad map to the controls ok in the Pad config utility?. You need to click on each button description displayed on screen, then push the button or direction on your pad that you want to use for that function. You should see the text change to identify the button press you've just made.
If you have successfully mapped your controller in the ePSXe pad config utility then also consider that ePSXe allows you to select the type of emulated controller (digital pad, dual shock etc) this will be the drop down menu in the top right corner of the pad utility screen.
I have found that ePSXe will expect different types of controller dependent on the game.
For example, I use a Dual Shock 2 with ePSXe and with most games its fine but some older games like Legacy of Kain - Blood Omen, won't work with it, however if I go back into controller config and set the controller as a PS1 Digital Pad (the one without analogue sticks) it works perfectly even though I am still using the same controller, so you need to use the pad config utility to tell ePSXe what type of Playstation controller you want it to emulate.
Hope that makes sense. If you're still stuck or not sure what I mean then post again.

Well, in what format are these games? Isos? Go back to the first post on the first page in this thread. Do all the configuration steps, and when the emulator is fully configured check the second part of step 9 in that post. That gives you somewhere to begin to figure it out. if you get stuck after that post again and include as much info on the problem as possible.

Easy now. You won't get help faster by shouting about it and bumping the thread.
In answer to your question: No, it doesn't matter where you put the emulator. epsxe folder is ok. The problem is the file extension on your game. Do they all end with DT2? That's not an extension I recognize and googling it turns up something about raster information files which I don't think is what you have.

I asked: Do they all end with DT2? That means your games.
Oh no... I think I just found the answer. Check to see how big the "game file" is? Shouldn't be more than 100kb right? That's not games. That's configuration files for the Delta frontend. My guess is you have no games then, so until you do you won't be able to play. Sorry.

FatTrucker
January 20th, 2009, 22:23
As retroguiden said what you've downloaded is the ePSXe with the Delta Front-End, you don't actually have any game files to load in the first place.
You best bet would be to download the latest version (1.7) of ePSXe from this site. Don't bother with Delta as its a waste of time and only duplicates what ePSXe does anyway.
Next you will need a PS1 bios rom. We can't link to one here as it breaches the forum rules so you will need to find one yourself. The most common one is called scph1001. This is the Playstations operating system and the emulator won't work without it.
Once you've got the necessary bios you need to source PS1 games in ISO format. These are disk images and will typically be a few hundred Megabytes in size or you can rip your original PS1 disks yourself.

Ok firstly it doesn't look like you have any game files, just emultor setup files for the games but not the games themselves.
wgl will be referring to your videocard or settings. What spec is the PC you are trying to run it on?, i.e Processor, Videocard, Ram, and operating system.

check or PowerISO, you should be able to open that format and save it as another.. renaming the file ext will not do the trick.

I'll be needing a bit of help. Y'see, i followed the configuration that Guitar put up and noticed a few holes. Always disappointed to see that a few things are always missing, definitely minute details...but details none the less. Good guide though and keep in mind from here on out i've followed all steps thoroughly...this is now a troubleshooting issue.
I'm having the usual crash problem from days old where my System Command comes up after i try to runCDROM or runISO - which i have an .iso loaded in DAEMON tools. I've also tried to runBIOS and yields the same result, "ePSXe.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Of course, i choose "Don't Send'' error report and get frustrated.
Extra Steps I've Taken Not Listed In Guitar's Configuration Guide:
1. I had to install a SmartIO.dll driver and put it in my Windows\System folder as well as ePSXe\Plugins folder. Then i had to instal a WNASPI32.dll driver and put it in the Windows/System folder.
2. Was not informed, but downloaded and installed the zlib1.dll driver and put it in ePSXe\Plugins as well as \ePSXe folders.
3. I have downloaded ForceASPI18 and ran each .bat and carried out full instructions and have restarted my CPU twice now.
4. i understand some roms are faulty so i have a coulple and have tested them on other peoples CPU's and my iPod Touch 2.2.1, oddly enough. They worked there.
I can't think if i'm missing too much. I do have a few theories.
-When i try to Test or Configure some item in the Sound and CD-ROM configuration it can crash or even give a message saying it can't find my D:/ Drive (Where the .ISO is loaded.) I'm thinking maybe i'm not that good at configuring what i need so i've included my system specs below. It seems that most to all Video plugins test and configure perfectly. Sound seems to fly right, but i don't think i've got my CD-ROM pinned.
-I could be missing essential drivers all around for my CPU as i have recently reformatted and did the best i could to update through windows updated. If this could be an issue, could someone give me a list of all Drivers (.dll) ePSXe uses?
-I'm using a compaq/toshiba/hp made Laptop and i've dropped it in the past, could my DVD Drive really be faulty ( Even though it usually works to write DVD's and read discs)
Basically that's all i've got. I'm going to work for a bit and it would be awesome to come home to an answer. I don't really expect anyone to spend a lot of time on this, i've just been reading on the site for a few nights now and been working solo on this emulation project for a few weeks now. I just really wanna nail this, it's been bothering me as i've been fairly adept at using/hacking other emulators. I love our subculture as i recently jailbroke my iPOD touch, and i know givin patience and trial i can figure this out with your help. I am a n00b but i'm not a complete idiot. Just can't think of much else.
SPECS:
Using ePSXe v1.6.0
Trying to play FFTactics on .iso or Xenogears on .cue/.bin.
*I also own these games and others i could use as straight CD-ROM usage to test.

Have tride these game:
FF7 original disc 1 (NTSC)
FF7 ISO disc 1 (NTSC)
Breath of Fire 3 ISO disc 1 (NTSC)
Obviously my region is NTSC.
I haven't tried an original disc of another game but I will.
I believe it could be my laptop which is a refurbished Dell Inspiron 1525 with a Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset. I know that the chipset is not able to run the graphics for the PC version of FF11 cause I tried to install it and they didn't work. All the other features are good though. That is the only one I question. I will try a different laptop as well.
The summary is that I hit run disc or run iso and it starts to run, then the screen turns black and after a few moments the error message from above appears. Any advice?
Okay scratch the error. I figured out that the BIOS was faulty, fixed it and now I just get a blank screen I will attempt different plugins until I get something. However, I thought I would ask about this I get an init aspi (235) error when I attempt to click the the run BIOS button. Why is that and what should I do? I have windows vista if that helps.

Hello there! I wonder if somone could help me. I have recently started mucking about with emulators after having been given great advice here in the Nintendo forum. I'm probably trying to run before I can walk here, but I've been trying to get to grips with the ePSXe emulator, using the guide on the first page, and although I've worked through the guide a few times now I keep encountering the same problem.
When I reach stage 7 of the guide...
(7) Once you have done all of this it's time to start epsxe for the first time. Go to the directory you installed epsxe too and double click the icon titled 'ePSXe.exe'. The program should start shortly.)
...and double-click the icon, the programme doesn't start. Instead I get a message saying:
"The application has failed to start because burutter.dll was not found.
Re-Installing the application may fix this problem."
I have tried re-installing several times but to no avail. The weird thing is that there does seem to be a file titled "burutter" sitting beside the "bios", "plugins" and "ePSXe" files in the initial WinRAR window. I've tried simply extracting this "burutter" file to the location of the ePSXe file (as well as the plugins folder), but I simply get another error message. Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks.

take the burutter.dll and copy/paste it into your windows/system32 folder.
Mr. DNA
July 26th, 2009, 16:17
I wasn't able to directly copy and paste "burutter.dll" to the system32 folder, so I extracted it to the desktop and then just dragged it into system32. It seemed to transfer, although when I scrolled down through the large system32 folder I couldn't see the "burutter.dll" file...
Anyway, when I then go back to double-click on the ePSXe icon, I still get the "burutter.dll" error.
A quick question- when you extract the initial epsxe emulator files into C:/Program Files/epsxe, as the guide instructs, do you only extract the file titled epsxe, or do you also extract the other files that are there, such as the "burutter" file which is visible in the initial WinRAR window? I have the same question for the graphics and sound plugins- do you extract everything that pops up in the WinRAR window, or just the obvious named file?

Extract everything into the ePSXe folder. Playstation emulators use the PS1 bios rom to run. It doesn't form part of the core download because its a copyright rom of the Playstation operating system. The usual one is called scph1001.bin
When you run ePSXe for the first time you need to open the config menu from the toolbar, select the bios option and point it at the location of this bios file.

Nah- something's not happening for me with this. Copying and pasting burutter.dll into system32 didn't do the trick. The emulator Gods are telling me to walk before I can run- I should concentrate on some of the other emulators I have that do work. Thanks for all of your help.

Cold be as simple as an old or slightly wonky .dll
I would google burutter.dll and the first option you get should be a direct link to download it from somewhere like dlldll.com
Grab it, and extract it into your ePSXe folder just to rule out a bad file. What OS are you running by the way.

Hmmm. Not exactly progress, but at least I'm getting a different error message now. I did what you instructed, and instead of the burutter error, I get:

Hi all!
First post here lol
Some time ago I downloaded the latest emulator because I wanted to play Final Fantasy IX but I could never really get it to work. After long hours of looking for files and changing the configuration to any combination possible, the furthest I got to play the game was to listen to the intro's music but no image regardless of the waiting. Can anyone provide any tips as to what I could do to make my emulator work? Any help would be appreciated. I have windows vista.
Edit: If this is not the appropriate thread for this let me know and I will delete the post. Or a mod could move it to a more appropriate place.

Please provide: System specs (Processor, Ram, GPU, DX version), plug-ins you are using, original disk or ISO?, region of the disk/ISO (US, JAP, EU) and what Bios you're using.
That should cover most of the things people might need to look at the problem and see what the cause might be. Seems most likely an issue with your type of graphics hardware, and/or the graphics plugin you're using but without the relevant info it could be any number of things.
Also with Playstation emulation its always worth doing a litmus test with the PSX emulator. PSX isn't plug-in based and requires very little in the way of setup, it also offers more faithful emulation than ePSXe (but not so many whistles, bells and enhancements) if the game works ok with PSX you know its probably just a settings issue with ePSXe.
If it doesn't work with PSX then its more likely to be related to your hardware or game image.

I downloaded Worms World Party. It took 2 hours to download (233 MB With Wireless Broadband). When it was done I extracted it to C:/Program Files/epsxe for easy access.
When I attempted to run it, the game was not there. I then tried to find the game in my Downloads so that I could try to put it in another folder and it was gone.
I searched for the word Party in my documents and the GBA and 64 worms games showed up, but not the PSX ISO.
I then downloaded another file to open my downloads list. It was there, but it wouldn't let me open the file.
What is going on?

You just need to look for BIOS and plugins in order to make it work.
If you don't have any, you can try to look for plugins at this link : >CLICK HERE!< (http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/psx/psxplugins-tools.html)
As for BIOS, you have to look for it through Google. :)

Hey man, there's a psx emulator called "PSX" the problem is probably the emulator. I had the same problem with a game called "Bust-A-Groove." Emulator change was needed. Not the BIOS or anything.

Be a bit more clear? Setting up in the plug-in troubles I suspect? If so try this...
select the mapping you want to config, click the button you want ( keep it held down ), click the next mapping you want to pick and repeat. If you dont keep the button held down it will unselected that button. I can not believe the epsxe team let this bug go on so long but they did.

I hope this gets look at. I have been trying for over 4 years to get the ps1 emulator for just 2 games (grand turismo 1 and 2) so far everyone has been able to get a fully working pse and I have not been able to get it. So far step by step instructions have failed and even you tube videos keep failing. Either the written steps are so confusing that I need help with, or such steps like in the video I saw i got everything until it kept saying i was missing 1 file, then another then another until i go fed up with it. All i want is those two games so i can play them with a friend. Can anyone truly help me with this? Seriously I am thinking be so much better to just pay for it than all this 4 years wasted looking to make it work.

If someone does not quote they generally are referring to the post above them. So yes that would be you. Now here you go, making the same mistake if you will? Further what is this proper channel nonsense? You said you were deaf not blind? The normal means of communication on a forum, is to post on the forum. So why are you upset with what Mupen64 Man

2) Once the file is finished downloading double-click it's icon. The file should automatically open in an archiving program such as Winzip or WinRAR. If you don't have such a program you can download one from either of these locations...

I have an LG Aristo 2 Android, and am looking for a free playstation 1 emulator that has 16x speed capability. Preferably from a source that doesn't come with adware that automatically creates a large amount of unwanted notifications, and an extract option included in the emulator.
I've had a PS1 emulator before on a different device without any problem, and I remember just needing to download the emulator and roms (no zipfiles as the emulator came with an extract option and no PS1 bios). I know it exists. Please, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

you're missing ASPI layer, give a try to forceASPI. If you're using win 2k/Xp you can switch to SPTI (IOCTL).
Anyway, to use an *original* FF9 PAL CD on ePSXe, you'll need the specific patches. Get only the Omegle tv (https://omegle.site/) files for your region (PAL UK).
Should load OK then
