I got a number of 673 from Nintendo but I don't believe that to be right.
I'm trying to find the number of nintendo games officially released in the United States.
I know it's close to 673 though.

I think they're a bit over 900 games, as far as I know.

Ok, I got the official total.
I took the nintendo list from nintendo's website and went over it. They left out 1 or 2 games on the list. 674 is the grand total of officially released licensed nintendo games.

Depends, do you mean games released by the company Nintendo or number of games released on the Nintendo(NES) console?
I use wikipedia.org for these type questions even if "it's not an academic resource" as my uni put it.
Here the games for NES alone http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NES_games

Not really. NES alone in this site is not accurate. Your best way to do is contact Nintendo for 100% fact.

Not really. There are A LOT of unlicensed games for the NES and Nintendo won't mention them.

Yeah, I know. :)
I do not played the unlicensed games because I find many unlicensed games rather dull and not fun. I only care about the number of nintendo games released that Nintendo is going to mention them. Unlicensed games do not count. :)

Wisdom Tree (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wisdom_Tree), hahaha. Dang, I just can't say how much those games suck.

672 is the number of nintendo games officially released in the United States that was licensed by Nintendo.
I have no intereste in the unofficial games or foreign games because the whole point of playing NES for me is to remind me of my childhood.
The NES list that's on Nintendos website is actually missing only 1 game, mike tyson's punchout.

I understand your point. The Wisdom Tree and Sachen games are very bad. But, as you can see here (http://www.er.uqam.ca/merlin/fd491499/nintendo/nes/), there are some pretty good unlicensed titles.
I think you shouldn't confuse unlicensed with pirates. A lot of the unlicensed games were for sale through the regular channels, the only thing with them was they weren't approved by Ninty.

As a person who played Nintendo as a child/teenager, unlicensed, modded, foreign games don't do anything for me. They're not the games I got excited about when I got them for X-mas presents, lol.
I'm gonna go and figure out the SNES list next. I think this should be easier.

Why don't you use The No-Intro Project (http://gbadat.altervista.org) to search what you want? The SNES dat is very accurate and everything that is not in the dat should be in the undumped list. Get it in the download section.

How do I locate the game list I need at that website?

If you choose f.e. the SNES dat in the download section it has a list (.csv) of all dumped games. If you take that and the undumped list, you should have a very accurate list. The only thing is that you need to filter it by region yourself.
