Cant really say unless your trying to load an archive instead of a rom.
I would suggest you try a newer emu like one of these fine choices..
nestopia
jnes
FCE Ultra
VirtuaNES
NESten

I had just run into this problem myself, at first I figured it was the rom so I used a rom from the no-intro set, opposed to the one from the good set. still the same problem??? hmm, then I noticed the one thing all the files had in common, they all had a ( . ) in the name such as d.r. mario or super mario bros.; after removing the ( . ) in the names besides the extension they worked fine. I'm not sure if this solves your problem, or for that matter your problem may already be solved just wanted to post incase others find it useful :D Nesticle must look for the extension (.nes) upon loading after any instance of ( . ) in the name, meaning only one period can be used in the naming followed by "nes".
Why not use Nestopia with 200+ mappers and perfect hardware timing?! I do use Nestopia, but I'm also a collector of unique and rare working computer hardware such as WinchipC6, Cyrix, Classic AMD. btw, the computer I was/am running Nesticle on during troubleshooting is a IBM VGA laptop with a Cyrix 5x86 (M1sc), so low system requirements is a necessity. :)
