FFVIII qustion on the psxe

is it possible to change the battle mode from real time to turn based .. i see it under the options but it seems to have no effect .. its been ages since i played the game the first time and dont remember if thats even possible.Also the map of the globe on the main screen doesnt show down in the bottom right hand corner so it makes getting places on the world map hit and miss. is that normal?

The games has always been turn based, it's just that there are two modes: Active and Wait. In Active mode, you can get hit even if you're selecting magic or items. In wait mode, time stops when you select magic or items. The only thing that won't stop when playing in wait mode is the countdown timer in some missions.

To view the map, press Select.
