I have never had prblems with emulators before because my computer was more than capable of playing nintendo 64 games (it had 1.5Gb RAM & 512MB ATI Radeon), but recently that computer's motherboard broke so I am temporarily stuck with an older PC. It doesnt seem to matter which emulator I use (project 64, 1964 etc) it just run each game ina sort of slow motion effect and the sound is completely mucked up. The Computers specs are:
Dell Dimension XPS T700R
Windows XP Pro SP2
512MB RAM
32MB nVidia Riva TNT2 Model 64 (my better gpu is incompatible with this motherboard)
80GB HDD
Intel Pentium III-E 700mhz
So is it running so slowly because the system is too old, or is it something else. I don't think its the graphics card because although its old when using the Rice video plugin it has a menu where it says Nvidia TNT2 compatibility mode or something like that. Thanks for any help.

That system just about hits the minimum spec for PJ64. I would suggest doing a fresh install of the video and sound drivers and DirectX and see if it improves at all.
If that doesn't help then experiment with some of the other video and sound plug-ins particularly any that offer DX7 support.

Its also worth bearing in mind that the minimum spec will physically display the games but it doesn't necessarily mean they will be fast or playable enough.

Use Jabo's Direct3D6 instead of Direct3D8.
