I was wondering if you can take a Playstation ISO and put it onto a cd and get it to work in my playstation.

You need to do two things:
1. Burn the ISO into a CD (obviously).
2. A modded PlayStation. A mod chip allows a console to read game copies/backups.

Didn't burned games play fine in a PSX, as long as the game had no copy protection?

Download Alcohol 120% (http://www.free-downloads.net/downloads/Alcohol_120_Alcohol 120%) and go to the image burning wizard, it'll guide you through the process.

Nope, depends on the console itself. Mostly console unable to play copied games unless it is modded. :)
