What is the best RPG game ever created so far, my favorite is The elder scrolls 4: oblivion.

That is tough. I played some RPGs, but I never found one that is the best. Speaking of Morrowind, I wonder if I will like 4 better. I still have Morrowind 3 installed with all expansions, but I don't bother to play it no more because there is too much to do, and you are left out there on your own. Its a world too harsh for me.

Diablo 1 or Final Fantasy 8

Diablo because I found it very playable and repeatable and it also had great online support.

FF8 because it had a good story and a great card game.

I preferred Morrowind to Oblivion, both excellent games though.

Its a difficult one to call because different RPG's excel in different ways. In terms of plot and characterisation I think Planescape: Torment wins it hands down.

Deus Ex probably gets the vote for action oriented adventure and open ended play.

I still rate Shadowrun on the Snes as one of the most atmospheric I've ever played. Its dog ugly to look at but the music, pace and cyberpunk setting really worked fantastically well.

If I had to choose one though it would probably be Morrowind as it sucked me in for months, had excellent third party and fan made support. It created a completely original world away from the conventional dragons and goblins demographic. There was just so much to see and do, with everything remaining consistent all the way down to being able to pick plants and make your own potions, craft your own magic items, and make your own weapons and armour from raw materials. A truly amazing piece of work.

Suikoden 1&2, Baldur Gate 2, Final Fantasy 9, Saga Frontier 2, Xenogear, ... hard to choose .

Oblivion on the 360 is alot better than on the pc. If you have a 360 wait till september. It is alot better that Morrowind RPG wise with next generation graphics non-linear gameplay and alot of the things that made Morrowind such a good RPG game.

The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion are both RPG's of the year.

Really? You rate 9 over 7 and 8? Please do give your reasons if you have any.

I was a little disappointed with 9 I think it was just a little too cartoony for my liking.

Diablo /Diablo II especially, is pants... it's just boring hack and slash with very little story..

Divine Divinity is on a whole different level, and it's essentially a Diablo clone.. (2D Isometric). It's higher resolution, beautiful artwork, tons of quests and story lines to follow + tons of in-game lore.

It's just an overall great experience. I played the game for a couple years straight. Oblivion is also nice, but balancing between system performance and visuals was kind of a pain.. It did keep me playing for a while though, I may reinstall it again sometime.

Baldur's Gate.

esp BGII. although technically BGI and its expansion, and BGII and its expansion are technically the same game, you do use the same character for them.

FF7 :
- Materia system, make character ability similar / not unique, i.e. we can equip shiva to anyone while on ff9 only the summoner can use it.
- Old graphic

FF8 :
- Conjunction? (i forgot) that make us stock magic from enemy that can be used by somebody. Why we must suck magic from enemy ? and heh, everybody can become a wizard or summoner.
- Stylish Pretty boys...(The cast doesn't have older character like Barret or Steiner, strange one like quina or freya)

Well, that just my opinion, i know a lot of people praise FF7 and FF8 but the bottom line is, i like FF9 because every PC are unique individual and have their own battle style in the game.

I thought I was the only one that liked FF9 better than 7 and 8. I found 8 boring, and 7 mehish. I can see why it was revolutionary for its time, but come on.

I stoped playing RPGs long ago. I just lost the ability to stay with plots and building up skill points and so on. How do you guys keep up with it?

I've played many RPG games, but I managed to complete a few of them. I couldn't be arsed to level up as it became monotone.

I stick to FPS and Side scrollers now and days. If there is a game that can combind FPS with RPG gameplay if be all over it.

I depends on the game. I find myself disliking Old school RPGs more and more (mostly turned based), as I get tired and more impatient about keeping up, and worrying if I can beat a boss. The feeling get annoying after awhile. That is why I play RPGs that don't reliy on level grinding, and Action-RPGs these days. I don't think I could play any old school FF game again, unless I cheat, for example. I can't take it anymore. Currently playing Grandia III. Yeah yeah, I know many didn't like it, but its one of the many RPGs that I can play through without sending the disk to the corner to pile dust or the garbage.

I love Grandia II's battle system. The ones who played it on PlayStation 2, Dreamcast or PC will know what I'm talking about.

Determination :D, the only one that can make me finish an RPG game is the story. Lame story make me feel sleepy.

Problem is that its an Action-Adventure game. You can say Zelda II was an RPG in some sense, then again the Zelda series in general, so nevermind. Butters, when you said Grandia II did you misread my message, because Grandia II seems to have much more love, and very little hate. III had problems with the storyline, and that turned many people off. Grandia II for the PS2 was terrible due to Framerate issues BTW. I want to try to keep this on topic, sorry for digressing a bit there.

No, I really meant Grandia II. I have never played it on PlayStation 2, but I say the PC version is the best. The battle goes at 60 FPS and the attacks are 2X faster than in Dreamcast.

Diablo 1 was better that Diablo 2 on the whole but I liked the hack'n'slash-iness of both of them.

I can see your point about FF7+8 and being able to make your characters very same-y but I like doing that :) It's one of the first things I do in FFX (is it X with the big board thing you move around?) move all my characters towards each other.

It's the little things that keep me coming back to an rpg like cards in 8, chocobo racing in 7, fishing in BoF3, I love them.

Never played any Grandias.
