Yep it real. Its was released on noobz.eu (http://www.noobz.eu/). Fanjitas websites, who is one of the main guys (among others ) who spend their time on finding and exploiting holes in the PSP.

Expect a 3.50 downgrader within the next few weeks. and more than likely a firmware update from sony (3.51 is my guess).

It means that homebrew is available for everybody. Before this came out people with firmware 3.10-3.50 couldnt run any homebrew.

Homebrew is programs that normal people make as a hobby. Such as emulators, ISO loaders etc.

At the moment there is only a "helloworld" proof of concept.

But in the future there will be downgrader using this exploit to downgrade a PSP with 3.50 to 1.50, opening up the world of PSP homebrew.

i CANT WAIT for a downgrader because unfortunately i have FW 3.5 . Do you know if there is a chance of screwing my psp up with just the exploit that lets me check out "helloworld". Or should i wait until there is a downgrader.. I also need to buy Lumines.

The "Helloworld" proof-of-concept shouldnt brick (Knacker it so i doesn't boot up). The downgrader when/if it is released may brick your PSP if you use incorrectly. The downgraders themselfs usually have their on checks to make sure files are in the correct place etc.

I'd also get hold of a copy of lumines as soon as you can. Sales for Lumines at Amazon.co.uk have gone up 14000% since yesturday. Sony will probably do what they did with GTA LCS and release a patched version.

Tip: I wouldn't recommend you try the downgrader as soon as it comes out. Wait until you see loads of people say it worked ok for them.

Inside the PSP is a NAND chip which is rewritable and stores the necessary files that make the PSP work, basically the operating system.

A brick is what people call their PSP if some of the crucial files are missing from the NAND chip. Without these files the PSP won't boot. You may be presented with a RSOD (Red-Screen-Of-Death) when trying to turn a bricked PSP on, asking you to contact Sony inorder to get it fixed.

Unlike computers when for example Windows XP becomes damaged you can insert the installation CD and repair or format then reinstall, a bricked PSP cant be resurrected. To unbrick a PSP you would need to send it to Sony who would have the specialist hardware to unbrick it.

Another way would be to install the modchip which will allow you to unbricking.
