How do you load a saved game on FFVI?

I've been playing my ffvi on the zsnes emulator, but I don't know how to load a saved game. I played through ffvi a while, saved, and then stopped playing. When I load the game again, though, it takes me directly to a new game and doesn't give me the opportunity to load.

Press the escape button. Now you can choose 'load state' in the menu.
