Best gamepad for NES and SNES emultors

When playing a Mario's like game, my gamepad does not jump OVER a pit or enemie. I think that's because the gamepad has 8 position direccional pad. How can I resolve this??

Please help??

Get an adapter, that way you can use a consol control on your PC... I play all my emulators with a playstation controller
