Games Won't Show Up in List

Hi, I'm new to MAME and was hoping someone might be able to help. I downloaded MAME32 and a set of roms and have pasted the roms into the ROMS folder. Many games work fine but some, such as joust and tron do not show up in my ALL Games list or Not Working list. I've even re-downloaded them and pasted the new versions into my rom folder, then clicked Refresh, but to no avail. Am I doing something wrong? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure you got the latest Mame with the latest romset. What you need it's an updated "tron.zip" parent game set. If you don't have the parent, the others won't work.
You might do an audit to know what you're missing: right click the game on the list, then click "audit". Otherwise try to load thta game, you'll get waht ROMs are missing.

On other Romsets, the cause might be you're missing the bios files for that system/board. There's a list on this forum, just make a little search

Thanks for the advice, but being new to this I'm still a bit confused. How do I know which is the "parent" rom? I downloaded a rom file called Tron.zip and put it in the Roms folder and refreshed the game list. But it doesn't even show up in the Not Workling list.

Also, any idea where to get the BIOS files and how to install them once I do?

The MAME32 program I'm using says version 0.98u2 (july22 2005) so I'm guessing it's pretty current.

Sorry, it's against our policy to provide bios or roms etc. After you have got the bios put it in the roms folder where you put your games.

I can't help you about the bios, just to mention google would help you. The Bioses should be placed on the roms folder too.

With the Mame32 default settings, the parent sets appears left margin aligned, and the clones down and a bit moved to the right. Also the clones show which one it's his parent on the "Clone of" field. If the clones are working versions, will be have a blue icon instead of the green parent too.

Did you tried the "Available" list? Anyway on the "All games" folder, type "tron" and you'll find the parent and clones below. Just double click it and post what message it's shown, or try an audit too.

I think you should check the romsets by using the Rom audit manager such as Clrmame. (But I still think that you have to learn a lot of things before using this program.) But anyway though.....
