Down button doesn't work on PSX emulator..

Hi, I'm using the playstation emulator known as "psx". Anyways, when trying to play "Tales of Destiny 2" the down button doesn't seem to work..at all. I tried setting the controls to a gamepad I have, and all the buttons worked fine, but it still wouldn't let me use the down button. I know for a fact there is nothing wrong with the gamepad, as the down button works perfectly on other things. I also tried to use the keyboard instead and the down button still doesn't work, again this keyboard works fine with anything else so it's not faulty or anything.

Is there any way to fix this? Is it maybe that I need a different version of the rom? I also use the "epsxe" emulator, and when I use this game on there the down button works fine on the keyboard and gamepad. However, the sound is really really choppy while on the PSX it sounds fine, so I'd prefer to play it on there(I've tried experimenting with sound plugins on epsxe, but none worked).
