Can't open Pokemon Yellow on VisualBoyAdvance (Mac)

Title says it all.
I've tried downloading from different places, but when i go to open it, it looks like it's about to work and then crashes. I've been able to play Fire Red on the same emulator, but it also crashed. I'm pretty sure it's the newest version available.
Any suggestions?

Have you checked the format of the rom? Sometimes different compressions cause difficulties when emulating. There are some tools out there which you can change it from its format to a .bin file. Another question, is it a 3rd party port or did the VBA team make it?
