Is there a way to change the difficulty level?

I'm playing Marvel vs Capcom and Slam Masters 2 and the computer cheats like crazy after the 3rd round.
Is there a way to change the difficulty settings on these games

If you're using mame just press F2 and look for the difficulty setting. It should be in one of the options (configurations i think).
