Save Problem with Final Fantasy VIII (ePSXe)

I'm trying to play FF8 and twice now I've saved my game (not using the save states, using the proper save option in the game), then however long after that my laptop shut down (has this problem when if I press the CTRL key and my pinky touches the metal part it cuts out), and when I went to reload, the save file was one from ages before that.

That first happened yesterday, so today I reloaded and after progressing a bit (I'm only at the start) I saved again in two different slots, and when I then saved it again those 2 saves were still there, but then my laptop shut down again and I've just gone to load and the only save file available is one from earlier on in the game - I had saved it about 3-4 times since then!

I dont mean to flame or anything but why do you emulate Final Fantasy VIII? It's got a pc version too.

I heard the PC version was a fairly poor port, plus I already have the ISOs for the PSX.
