I am having an issue where I'm trying to install this old DOS video game but it won't work. I have a '05 Windows XP Media Center. I figured there's more to it that just getting an emulator.

If its a Dos game then you'll want to download DosBox. This is a Dos emulator for systems like Windows XP.

As for setting up your game it varies from game to game how it needs to be setup using Dos. If you're familiar with using Dos then you can do it through DosBox in the usual way.
If you aren't familiar with using Dos then google for 'setup <gamename> with Dosbox' and it should hit you with a link on how to set that game up.
