stupid save problem please help

does anyone know how i can retrieve a lost file? ive been playing an earthbound emulator. in the beginning of the game i used the emulators f2 save but never again throughout the game. i always just used the save points in the game. now i decide to save with f2. when i press f4 to load it loads a different save from the very beginning of the game and i cant go back to that original one. is there any way for me to load that previous file or am i just screwed.

the emulator you're using is probably zsnes, press F3 to select the savestate.
