Question Trouble running a rom on MAME32

Hi. I recently downloaded the mslug3.zip rom. I put it in the roms folder of my MAME32 folder, unzipped. Unfortunately when I opened MAME32, I could not run the game. It was not shown in the avaliable list, and it didn't work when I opened it (had a loading bar and then went back to MAME32 screen.)

    Can someone please help?

You don't unzip mame roms, just leave them zipped and put them in the mame\roms folder.

For neogeo games to work you also need the NeoGeo bios in your mame\roms folder. The file is called neogeo.zip although the forum rules prohibit providiing information on where to obtain it (googles handy though). Just like the game roms you leave this zipped and place it in the mame\roms folder.

There are a number of arcade systems in mame that require a bios rom as well as a game rom to work with mame. Googling mame bios roms or visiting the Maws webpage should yield helpful results.

Once you have added any new (zipped) roms to the rom folder select 'file' from the Mame32 toolbar and then 'audit all'. Now your games will run if you have the correct roms.

Lastly remember some games have several variants (clones) but only one version will be the parent rom. A parent rom contains all files for the game and the clones won't run without it.

Sorry, I meant I left it zipped.

Does Metal Slug 3 specifically need a NeoGeo bio thing? If not, do I need to find a site that tells me which roms require which bios? I think MS3 is by SNK. Do I need that bio?

    It's not a clone, I checked.

I use to have a huge MAME32 library that someone gave to me, but I lent to someone and never got it back (considering I can't even remember to whom I lent it!)

    Thanks

Ok, I downloaded Neo-Geo, which I think is the right rom. I did Audit all and got this error message:

    "neogeo : sp1.jipan.1024 131072 bytes NOT FOUND
    CRC(9fb0abe4) SHA1(18a987ce2229df79a8cf6a84f968f0e42ce4e59d)
    mslug3 : sp1.jipan.1024 131072 bytes NOT FOUND (BIOS)
    CRC(9fb0abe4) SHA1(18a987ce2229df79a8cf6a84f968f0e42ce4e59d)
    Audit complete."

Well, as it says, your neogeo.zip is missing a rom.

You will need to do more searching for the newest neogeo.zip, as it has changed several times over the years.
