Valkyrie Profile getting stuck

Ive looked all over the place, but cant seem to find someone with the same problem. When i play valkyrie profile, at certain parts of the monologues (where the characters talk with voices), it gets stuck. Normally, the voice plays as the words appear. But sometimes the words appear, but no sound comes out. After that, nothing more happens. The screen just gets stuck with those words. The background music still plays and all.

The problem seems to relate to the framerate. If i remove the framerate limit and let it run as fast as it can, the problem occurs more often. If i limit it at 60, most of the problems are gone. Im using ePSXe 1.60, and have tried several different video plugins (such as P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.1.16 and Pete's D3D 1.75) and even bioses. Ive used several different settings and have been able to get past many of the places where it gets stuck, but at the part just after when Valkyrie first meets Aragrim near the beginning, i cant seem to get past it.

Has anyone had this problem, or know of any fixes? The problem is occuring right at the beginning, so i can only play about an hour's worth of the game. =\ Thanks.

Could you mind tell us your PC specs?

AFAIK, I was playing the Valkyrie Profile (Japanese or English) and it works fine with this 2 plugins that I used.

Make sure that you enable the XA and CDDA sound which is found on sound configuration. :cool:

You may try that if it helps.....

If you read the Peops or Eternal SPU switches, you'll see SPU IRQ hack it's recommended for Valkyrie Profile and some others like MGS. I have VP NTSC-U, and the voices only work fine with SPU IRQ hack enabled, no matter if it's from real CD nor ISO. Maybe you're playing another version, but dunno if ohter versions are affected (NTSC-J, perhaps?)

Probably I forgot that one...... perhaps. (Amnesia? :p Since I'm getting forgeting important things easily.) Need to double check mine.

oh, i doubt its a sound problem, since most of the time, the voice actually does play. It only gets stuck on a few specific parts. I thought it is a framerate problem, because if i change the framerate, other voices stop playing.

Anyway, here's my system specs:
processor: Pentium M
ram: 640 MB
graphics: Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller
audio: SigmaTel C-Major Audio

Nah, probably your PC it's far enough to run ePSXe, but I'm not sure if your Gfx card (integrated) might have problems with some settings on OGL or D3D.
Are you playing from a real CD or an ISO? If it's real CD, I'd switch to Peops CDr plugin, then "autodetect" & "cpuasync" should help, also "Enable Accurate CD-ROM Timing". Otherwise, try to make an ISO either directly loaded or emulated through Daemon Tools, I like the last one as some games might not play correcctly from an ISO. GL :)

Im running it on a ISO. I tried mounting it with daemon tools, but its still getting stuck. When i try to use the peops cd plugin, epsxe crashes when i do autodetect. Would the epsxe version matter? Im going to give it a try with 1.5.2.

meh, 1.5.2 isnt working either.

Use SaPu CD plugin with no problem. (My first choice!) ;)

Funny thing is that when i played valk profile a year ago on the same computer, it worked almost completely fine. It wasnt until midway through the game that the first problem came up. But now, it happens before i even hit the first dungeon. =\

so as other places written in language I can read.
It's frustrating to be stuck in such a begining of the game, don't you think?

I suppose you tried enable SPU IRQ hack, pEOps CDr Plugin, etc.
Are you playing from the original CD? I'd try to play from an ISO
And I'd try ePSXe version 1.5.2 (latest it's 1.6.0). Otherwise, PSXeven and SSSPSX are great emus to worth trying ;)

Could you specify which emulator and plugins you'd use? I personally play the game with ePSXe and PSXeven, and both emulators works fine.

Plugins I'd use :
Pete's OpenGL 2.6
Eternal SPU (you must click on Valkyrie Profile fixes)
SaPu CD plugin

Anything else? Please post here. ;)

Give a try to SSSPSX, works great as long you don't change the default input & CDr plugins and use an ISO (cue-bin, ccd-img or iso format)

That's the usual plugins that best for very decent graphic cards (Not too old and not too new). The one I mentioned is the latest that suits best for any latest graphic cards. :cool:

This looks to be PSXeven, so it might an emulator bug. Perhaps ePSXe 1.5.2 , or other GPU plugin works better: Peops soft GPU should work. Also would be god to know about the plugins you're using

hmmm sorry doesn't work either, even with ePSXe 1.5.2 or higher version or the Plug-Ins you recommended.

Is there any way to get some kind of pre-set emulator?

Pete's D3D % OGL GPU plugins offer a "Copy settings to clipboard", so I paste here what I often use.

Weird, as I never had that kind of that problem with ePSXe 1.6.0 on that game (both version, Japanese and English).

What did you do before that screen showed up?

well I used ISO-Buster to get the ISO files from my Download, I loaded all the plug-ins, that were recommended here. startet the ePSXe and used the Wizard Guide.

Then I chose run ISO.

The game started , as is well so far.

In the game's first menu screen I choose: New Game --> difficulty : Normal

the the "Retry" symbol appears.

Try to mount it with Daemon-Tools. I doubt it had something to do with 'CD reading failure'.

I just don't get it, it still doesn't work... Am I too dumb?

I'd delete the whole registry entries of ePSXe, with regedit. It's documented on the help file

I don't think it had something to do with the registry but the CD or CD image itself failed...... :rolleyes:

Hmmm, BIOS' faulty maybe?

Maybe, imho it's also good to check another BIOS although ePSXe authors talk about an emulation bug more than that. Anyway, SCPH-1001 and SCPH-7502 are the most recommend because have been mainly tested. Since some people is having the same problem looks to me an emulator/plugin problem though (they might got the mame image dump but who knows)

This actually happens to me quite a bit... Most frustrating has been Aelia, Lorenta (or was it Mystina)... and right now I'm getting stuck with Lucian.

Does anyone know what to do when the monologue (text with voices) doesn't finish the sentence. it is really anoying. The game is valkyrie profile. SOMEBODY HELP!!!!!

I think I found the problem. It's save states. I'd been using save states the whole time, and I read that on another forum. So I saved the game on the "memory card", reset, and reloaded the data from the memory card and it worked the first time.

I use Pete's OpenGL Drive 1.76
Eternal SPU Plugin 1.41 with both SPU IRQ's enabled for Valkyrie Profile, and the reverb off - otherwise default settings.

That's not a real problem as mine runs fine with that kind of method (save states).

But it could be wiseable that you saved the game in 'Memory Card' as well. (Highly recommended. Who knows when your save states doesn't work at all.) ;)

Hum this thread is old but i was not feeling like make a whole new thread about the same subject...anyway, im having the same problem, but just one thing i think strange about this emulator, on my computer the graphics are horrible, plus the sound all bad..im sure yall will say its my computer...but how come ``emurayden`` run all my cds at full speed, graphics EVERYTHING PERFECT???? i cant understand this emulator, in my opinion theres no other word to this emulator... ``piece of S**`` anyway, dude get emurayden and you can play valkirie profile at full speed, graphics and all. :happy:

Then you should know that once you're in the world, the whole screen would be black and you can't see anything. Plus, [pec] is not supporting that emulator.

No no my friend, theres no black screen im telling you, the game run without any problem, in another hand this emulator stuck when argrim is talking about jelanda [after that part where argrim and bradack are on a three.] and he says that he wouldnt mind of kill bradach....if im not mistaken when i played on my playstation that part of the game had some kind of a song...but on this emulator theres nothing and the screen freeze on that part...oh by the way the ``japanese`` cd is the one i have, and it doesnt stuck on the world scene. ;) but if you guys know how to solve this problem on the psxe. :)

Actually I DID try with both versions (English & Japan) using emurayden and still gave me the same result. Unless, that emulator had been updated.

Oh about this i dont know...but i just cant play valkyrie profile on epsxe, do you know how to solve this? its exactly on that part where argrim says ``I'd would have been quite happy to kill that stinky knave...`` then the sound is cut and it freeze...do you know why this is happening?

LOL if i was waiting for someone to help...anyway i solved he problem to not crash on that part the option ``audio out method`` must be the ''SPU async`` in case someone went in this problem, since is HARD get any help on this board..
