Emulator for Castlevania II
I tried FCE Ultra and it couldn't handle the speed of the game sadly. It would really slow down when there was about 5 monsters on screen. Also, there would be this annoying distortion in the middle of the screen, a squiggly line, like a bad tv reception. Could someone recommend a NES emulator that can handle fast paced games?
I'm thinking Nesticle, JNES, or Vnes...but have no idea which to use.

It happens on the real NES too, but I think there are slowrom fix hacks somwhere.

Try Jnes.
Re: Emulator for Castlevania II
Slowdown on the real NES didnt bother me. Same for emulator so I can feel the real console on emulator, neat. It didn't bother me. That's normal.
Re: Emulator for Castlevania II
Ok, I guess I'll give Jnes a try I guess.
For some reason FCE was putting a line through mario 3 too...so that emulator def is out for me.
Do any of these emulators get tweeked or updated?
I just figured there would be a nice GUI on some of these programs.
Re: Emulator for Castlevania II
Those annoying lines you mention appears on the real console too, but you couldn't see it on your TV because the image is overscanned (out of the TV screen limits).
Re: Emulator for Castlevania II
I totally agree, like zelda once freeing all the ghosts in the graveyard. That made the game crawl...
Re: Emulator for Castlevania II
So, is there 1 NES emulator that perhaps speeds up the games? Or, do I need to locate individual hacks for each rom that will speed up the game?
Besides this issue, is there an emulator that is looked at as the "best smulator"?
I'm not a mapper of any sort so any emulators that are known for mapping would not be needed by me.
I want to thank everyone for their input. I've learned quite a bit.
Re: Emulator for Castlevania II
Emulator-Zone's best emulators are based on user votes. The more stars, the better, but you may want to try the 2nd or 3rd one. It's up to you.
And no, I don't think there are speed patchs, but Slow ROM Fixes. It's just a hardware limitation, you know, many sprites on screen is too much for the NES hardware, don't you think so?
Re: Emulator for Castlevania II
Thanks for the information.
Could anyone point me in the direction of where I can get the ROM fixes? I have every NES game ever released but no fixes for them.
Re: Emulator for Castlevania II
Impossible. Slow ROM fixes are coded inside the ROM itself by a release group dedicated to ROM hacking.
