PCSX2 SVN r3692 is released. PCSX2 is an open source PlayStation 2 (PS2) emulator for the Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems. With the most recent versions, many PS2 games are playable (although speed limitations have made play-to-completion tests for many games impractical), and several games are claimed to have full functionality.

PCSX2 SVN Changelog:
r3692
General emulator memory work, regarding my new policy that most (or all) cpu and hardware registers should be standard globals, as it makes our lives a lot easier in general (and their memory footprint is small so it won't adversely affect the virtual memory availability of the host operating systems). Details:

* Removed the hacky g_pVU1 pointer, which required VU1 cpu registers to be part of VU0. Replaced it with a standard VU1 variable (mimics all other CPU registers, which are standard static vars). We were using translation functions/tables for all VU0 memory operations anyway, so this was a no-brainer.
* Removed code from microVU that was only there to help deal with the fact that g_pVU1 was annoying.
* Turned eeMem->HW into a static global array eeHw [64k].

MESS SVN r8915 is released. MESS(Multi Emulator Super System) is an open source emulator which emulates a large variety of different systems. MESS is a source-available project which documents the hardware for a wide variety of (mostly vintage) computers, video game consoles, and calculators through software emulation, as MAME does for arcade games. As a nice side effect to this documentation, MESS allows software and games for these hardware platforms to be run on modern PCs.

Dolphin SVN changelog:
r6134
JitIL: Fixed the wrong implementation of "mtcrf". (The bit order was reverse...) This commit may fix the bugs reported in Issue 3097 and r6127. (I could not test them because I don't have the games which are reported.)
r6135
JitIL: Restored some instruction handlers reverted in r6131. If this revision does not introduce the bugs reported in Issue 3097 and r6127, the cause of the bugs is the wrong implementation of "mtcrf" which was fixed in r6134. If not, there are other bugs. I will revert again. Any way, they were my fault. I'm sorry for all.

DOSBox SVN r3637 is released. DOSBox emulates an Intel x86 PC, complete with sound, graphics, mouse, joystick, modem, etc., necessary for running many old MS-DOS games that simply cannot be run on modern PCs and operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, Linux and FreeBSD. However, it is not restricted to running only games. In theory, any MS-DOS or PC-DOS (referred to commonly as "DOS") application should run in DOSBox, but the emphasis has been on getting DOS games to run smoothly, which means that communication, networking and printer support are still in early development.

DOSBox also comes with its own DOS-like command prompt. It is still quite rudimentary and lacks many of the features found in MS-DOS, but it is sufficient for installing and running most DOS games.

DOSBox SVN Changelog:
r3637
Fix video capture problems.

This release officially introduces the accuracy and performance cores, alongside the previously-existing compatibility core. The accuracy core allows the most accurate SNES emulation ever seen, with every last processor running at the lowest possible clock synchronization level. The performance core allows slower computers the chance to finally use bsnes. It is capable of attaining 60fps in standard games even on an entry-level Intel Atom processor, commonly found in netbooks.

The accuracy core is absolutely not meant for casual gaming at all. It is meant solely for getting as close to 100% perfection as possible, no matter the cost to speed. It should only be used for testing, development or debugging.

The compatibility core is identical to bsnes v067 and earlier, but is now roughly 10% faster. This is the default and recommended core for casual gaming.

The performance core contains an entirely new S-CPU core, with range-tested IRQs; and uses blargg's heavily-optimized S-DSP core directly. Although there are very minor accuracy tradeoffs to increase speed, I am confident that the performance core is still more accurate and compatible than any other SNES emulator. The S-CPU, S-SMP, S-DSP, SuperFX and SA-1 processors are all clock-based, just as in the accuracy and compatibility cores; and as always, there are zero game-specific hacks. Its compatibility is still well above 99%, running even the most challenging games flawlessly.

If you have held off from using bsnes in the past due to its system requirements, please give the performance core a try. I think you will be impressed. I'm also not finished: I believe performance can be increased even further.

I would also strongly suggest Windows Vista and Windows 7 users to take advantage of the new XAudio2 driver by OV2. Not only does it give you a performance boost, it also lowers latency and provides better sound by way of skipping an API emulation layer.

Hi. I posted a topic on here about a year ago regarding problems I was having getting the model 2 emulator to work properly. Well I added an extra 1gb of ram about a month ago and I've just upgraded my graphics card to a Geforce 7600 GT which now runs the the roms pretty much perfectly - but I can't get the option to configure the controls to work! Everytime I click on the option nothing happens. I did use a different controller at one point after swapping the GPUs (a wireless PS3 Streetfighter IV pad) so I'm wondering if that might've done something to the emulator and not the GPU swap. I've tried re-installing the emulator from scratch and putting it in a different folder and opening the emulator in safe mode, but the same problem re-occurs. Does anyone know what I can do to sort it out? Also, As I said earlier it runs almost perfectly, i still have random moments when the CPU usage hits 100%and everything slows down to a crawl (I have the same problem in MAME as well). Does anyone know of anything I could do to stop this? One thing I've noticed is that in Task Manager my System process is using 104, 204 K (although the CPU bit next to it says 00), but I'm sure when I've checked the same thing on the computers where I work they're using something like 200 K. Is that normal? Any advice will be very gratefully recieved :)
