Controller Not Working in DOS ZSNES!

For some reason, in my DOS version of ZSNES, my installed gamepad (Interact ProPad 8) is not getting recognized?! It works in other Windows-based emulators as well as NESticle. This is for my old computer that is too slow for the Windows version and its use of DirectX. Anyone have a solution?

If you are in straight up DOS and don't have some kind of drivers (if the pad needs them) or the pad doesn't support DOS, then you are probably out of luck
